Breastfeeding is something that comes naturally for some, but for others like me; it’s one of the hardest jobs. You’ve just given birth to this amazing bundle of life and now he’s hungry but you have no idea what you’re doing or how to cope. This was me!

An emergency C-section delayed my milk coming in and with complex boobs, as it is, I called on the lactation consultant so many times in those first couple of days after my son was born. Going home and having to try and adapt to motherhood, a newborn baby, breastfeeding, trying to recover from surgery, limited sleep and limited support, I felt overwhelmed. I was a fish out of water.

I thought I was finally getting the hang of things when all of a sudden my baby started screaming in pain after every feed. I panic and thought I must be doing something wrong. I made yet another appointment with the lactation consultant, and after that appointment, everything changed. With confirmation from my GP, it was discovered that my son was dairy sensitive, meaning every feed I was giving him was like poison to his little body. To continue my breastfeeding journey, I made the decision to eliminate dairy from my diet. This was no easy feat for a cheese lover like me.

Fast forward to 6 months and I wanted something to reward myself and symbolise everything we had been through together to get to this point. I never thought I would be able to breastfeed and making it to 6 months was an accomplishment I felt proud of.

Searching the internet, I found a DIY kit to make breastmilk jewellery keepsakes. Being a creative person at heart, I had no hesitation in ordering the kit. Making my own keepsake to visually honour this moment in my journey, with my own two hands, was the perfect reward for me.

Now over 18 months later, I still have the breastmilk pieces that I admire and wear regularly, reminding me of this precious moment in my life.

Today, I give other mums the opportunity to preserve their own precious memories and visually honour their motherhood journeys by offering my perfectly packaged DIY Kits. These kits make European beads that suit Pandora bracelets or necklaces, and crystal pendants. The kits come with everything you need to treasure your own unique moments. You can preserve breastmilk, locks of hair, dried placenta, umbilical cord, loved one’s ashes, a firth tooth and so much more.
