Even though we all have them, birthdays are not everyone’s cup of tea and in my opinion, this is all based on childhood experiences and memories. Therefore, it’s important to make a child’s birthday a big deal.
I understand that planning a party or a celebration can be a bit daunting, which is why I’m here to make the experience more enjoyable. Having planned a couple of birthday parties myself, here are a few tips you can follow to bless your child with great life memories.
First things first
Working with a predetermined budget is always a good idea. This will not only help you be more organised, but it will also help you decide which birthday party options are more achievable. Set your maximum budget, make a list of everything you’ll need, from tables to straws and stick to it.
Get your child involved
Even though sticking to the budget is important, the main purpose of this exercise is still to make your little one happy. Ask your child for suggestions and preferences. This will make the party more personal. Be careful though, don’t ask for an entire plan, this may open room for disappointment should you not meet the expectations.
What’s a party without a theme?
Choosing a theme that will make your child the happiest is the make or break of the party. From fairy princesses to pirate parties or under the sea adventures, there is more than enough themes to choose from. Just make sure to find out what your child loves the most, no matter what it is.
Consider the food
Everybody can tell you that good food can save your entire party, even if everything else fails. Just make sure that you’ve written down all the food preferences of your guests. If there are any vegetarians, make sure that there are meals suited for them. Aim for food that’s easy to eat.
The centrepiece
The cake is like the centrepiece of the party! Once you know the theme and the number of guests, you can order the right size for the cake. Make sure it looks fun, with figurines and bright colours, and in your child’s favourite flavour. Additionally, don’t forget to get candles – there’s no birthday wish without them!
Fun times
All children love games. This is why you’ll have to think of only the best. If your budget allows, you can even hire entertainers. You can play sports, board games, theme games, puzzle games and everything you presume your child would like.
It’s a wrap
Location is also extremely important. Having a large number of children in one place inevitably leads to stains and destruction. This is why you need to try and contain the area of the party as much as possible. There are a few things you can do to make the clean-up afterwards easier:
- Have the party outdoors.
- Empty the dishwasher before the party, to make it ready for the extra load.
- Use disposable cutlery if possible.
