Traveling as a single parent can be challenging, but it is also an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only does it give you the opportunity to spend quality time with your children, but it also allows you to explore new places and cultures together.

Additionally, traveling can help to build your child’s confidence and independence. In today’s world, it is more important than ever for children to learn how to navigate different cultures and solve problems on their own.

By exposing them to new experiences, you can help them develop the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly globalized world.

When my son was 2 years old, I became a single parent. At first it was challenging, but I was determined to take Jordan on as many adventures as I could, so he could learn about the world and about himself through real life experiences.

I had started my own website design business one year prior, so I had the freedom to pack up and go at a moment’s notice, but money was often tight in the first few years.

I could see how quickly Jordan was growing and I knew I only had limited time in which to take him travelling, so every spare dollar I had went into our trips.

While planning one of our escapes, I came across a website called “Weekend Notes”.  The website was full of great resources and suggestions for places to go and things to see. And I  noticed they were looking for writers.

I hesitated for a moment before applying – I had very little writing experience and English is my second language. But I figured the worst thing that could happen is that I wouldn’t be accepted.  But luck was on my side and I was hired as one of their writers.

The great thing about working for Weekend Notes was that I could write whenever I had spare time and energy. Not only did it give me extra income, but my son and I also got invited to attend special events, stay in hotels and go on experiences for free. And all I had to do was write a review in return.

For many single parents, the idea of traveling may seem like a far-off dream. However, with a little planning and creativity, it is possible to take an affordable trip.

There are a number of ways to save money on travel expenses, such as flying during off-peak times or out of school holidays, booking accommodation in advance, and taking advantage of loyalty programs and loyalty points.

If you wish to earn extra money for your trip, you also have several options:

  1. Sell stuff

If you are short on funds, selling some of your unwanted belongings is a great way to raise the money you need. Not only will you declutter your home, but you’ll also be able to put the money towards something that will give you lasting memories and happiness. To get started, have a good sort through your things and decide what you no longer need or use. Once you’ve gathered everything together, you can start listing items for sale online or holding a garage sale.

  1. Rent Out Your Home Through AirBnB or Social Media

More and more people are using Airbnb and Social Media to rent out their homes while they travel. Not only does this provide an extra source of income, but it can also help to offset the cost of your holiday. Airbnb allows you to set your own price and schedule, so you can rent out your home for as long or as little as you like.

  1. Babysit

While it may not be the most glamorous job, babysitting can be a great way to earn extra money. In addition, it can be flexible enough to fit around your busy parenting schedule.

  1. Become a Pet Sitter or Dog Walker

Pet sitting or dog walking can be a fun and rewarding way to earn some extra cash and it can also be flexible enough to fit around your children’s needs. Plus, it’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise!

  1. Run Errands

By running errands such as grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, cooking, watering plants, feeding pets or doing laundry for other people, you can generate additional income without having to sacrifice time with your children.

  1. Become a Content Writer

As a content writer, you can work from home and set your own hours, which can be a helpful way to juggle parenting duties with earning money. And, since many businesses are now turning to the internet to market their products and services, there is a growing demand for talented writers who can create engaging content. If you have a knack for writing and good communication skills, content writing may be a viable option for generating extra income

  1. Manage Social Media for Businesses

Many businesses are looking for help with managing their social media accounts, and this can be a great way to earn some extra money. In order to be successful, you will need to be social media savvy and have good writing and communication skills. You will also need to be organized and efficient in order to keep up with the demands of multiple clients.

Jordan is now 21 years old and I can see what wonderful impact travel has had on him. He is a confident, kind, courageous and well-rounded young man with integrity and compassion for those around him. And I am so thrilled to have so many incredible memories from our trips and adventures.

Being a single parent doesn’t mean you have to put your travel dreams on hold. In fact, travelling as a single parent can be a great way to bond with your children and create lasting memories. So if you’re a single parent, don’t let anything hold you back from exploring the world with your kids.
